Prosecutor obtains audit of politically connected Illinois contractor
A spokeswoman for Governor Rod Blagojevich says an audit of a contractor accused of bilking the state out of more than $2 million has been turned over to Cook County prosecutors.
The governor's office ordered the audit in January after investigators raided the now-defunct K.K. Bio-Science. The Chicago drug-testing firm was suspected of billing the state for drug screenings that were never performed.
The owner of K.K. Bio-Science, Anita Mahajan, was indicted in May on fraud charges.
Blagojevich spokeswoman Abby Ottenhoff says a months-long delay in handing over the audit was because it hadn't been completed.
In demanding the audit in a court filing last month, prosecutors said they believed the findings could be used as proof in other crimes. A hearing is set for today before Cook County Judge James Michael Obbish.
