Look for local mom on 'Today Show'

Earlier this week, it looked like a movie was being shot at Jennifer McDevitt's house.

Lights, cameras and action were everywhere at her Palatine home as crews filmed her daily routine for an upcoming on NBC's "The Today Show."

She's being featured as one of the runners in this year's New York City Marathon. McDevitt, 33, is part of the Tug McGraw team for the race, which is raising money for brain tumor research.

The Palatine mom was diagnosed in 2003 with a malignant brain tumor and around the same time, took up marathon running.

On Sunday, she will run in her first New York City Marathon. She's run three Chicago marathons all while undergoing chemotherapy.

"I just want people to be aware of brain cancer and to fund research and to find a cure for this disease," she said.

During the filming for "The Today Show," McDevitt was taped running with national correspondent Natalie Morales, playing with her son, Jack, and doing other things around the house.

"It was so fun," she said. "It was relaxed and laid-back."

Last year before the Chicago marathon, her story landed her a starring role in an Energizer battery commercial filmed at Lincoln Park Zoo.

The exact run date for the segment is unknown. Go to www.tugmcgraw.com for more information on the marathon team.

Patten price goes down: Palatine's Patten House price has dropped. The current listing for the 1898 majestic home that sits on the corner of Benton and Wood streets is $1.6 million. When it was put on the market in June, the house was listed for just under $1.8 million through Sotheby's International Realty.

The listing this summer came just days after the Palatine Village Council voted against buying the home at 117 N. Benton St. -- despite an April referendum in which 70 percent of voters endorsed the idea of the village considering to buy the home.

Officials who want to see the Patten House serve as a community arts center say there are still things going on behind-the-scenes to make that happen.

Vet's event set: The Palatine American Legion Post 690 will host its annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 10:25 a.m. It will be at the Veterans Memorial in Community Park, near Northwest Highway and Wood Street. The ceremony will feature the Legion's Color Guard and Rifle Team and remarks by leaders of the Legion, the Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of the Legion. Mayor Rita Mullins will present the keynote address. Questions should be directed to Fred Hall at (847) 359-1606.
