A musical sampler
The audience at Waubonsee Community College's musical this weekend will get a little bit of everything.
That's because the musical theater class' production, "Broadway Bits 'n Pieces" takes songs and themes from a multitude of different shows.
"The basic foundation is about what the American musical was and its history," said theater professor Maria Bakalis, who wrote the script. "It takes the best of the better musicals."
The story follows conversations between a longtime theater janitor and a naïve actress looking for an audition.
Some of the plays included are "My Fair Lady," "Fiddler on the Roof," "South Pacific" and "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying."
Relationships and love are also a recurring theme in many of the lyrics.
This is the third musical theater class to put on a production, Bakalis said. The class is designed to work on acting, voice and movement.
The cast is comprised of: Elisabeth Jackson and Cameron Mueller of Yorkville; Christian Anderson of Montgomery; Blake Cline, Christa Foster, Jessica Lapierre, Rigo Alfaro, Will Wilson and Brenda Martinez, of Aurora; Julia Coffey of Hinckley; Kristin Dauchy and Sutton Williamson of Batavia; Loren B. Whitmer and Megan Taylor of Plano; Mike Hochstetler of Oswego; and Gary Clark of Sugar Grove.
The musical will be performed at 8 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday in the auditorium on the Sugar Grove campus, Route 47 at Harter Road. Tickets are $5. For more information, call (630) 466-7900, ext. 2393.
