AU women ranked nationally:ŒThe Aurora University women's soccer program made another historical step in the 2007 season, this time being ranked in the national Top 25 for the first time in the program's 14-year history.

The D3kicks.com Top 25 released for week 9 has the Spartans ranked as the No. 25 team in the country. The Spartans moved up one slot from last week, when they were the top team in the "others receiving votes" category.

The Spartans are 17-2-1 and finished 12-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference to win the conference championship. AU is on a school-record 17-game win streak. In that time it has outscored its opponents 71-5.

Leading the way for the Spartans this season are sophomore forward Jessica Novickas with 17 goals, 5 assists and 5 game-winning goals; junior forward Allison Bailey with 12 goals, 9 assists and 4 game-winning goals; sophomore midfielder Nikki Counsell with 4 goals and 10 assists; and sophomore goalkeeper Jenny Jarvis with a 16-2-1 record with 56 saves, 11 shutouts and a 0.68 goals against average.

The Spartans play Thursday when they host the semifinal round of the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament. Game time is 1:30 p.m. on AU Field with the opponent yet to be determined.

• Jarvis was named the Northern Athletics Conference Women's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 28. The award is Jarvis' second this season.

On the week, Jarvis went 2-0 and earned her 10th and 11th shutouts of the season, which ties an AU single season record previously held by Alicia Martin in 2002.

In AU's 1-0 win over Edgewood College to clinch the 2007 Northern Athletics Conference Championship, Jarvis had 2 saves. She then posted 1 save in AU's 4-0 win over Concordia University Chicago. With her scoreless week, Jarvis extended her current shutout streak to 383 minutes.
