'Suspicious' suitcase contained just clothes, food
Trains are running again through Naperville this afternoon after a suspicious suitcase discovered near the city's downtown train station was found to contain only men's clothing and food.
Members of the DuPage County bomb squad opened the brown suitcase at 2:13 p.m. after X-rays and other detection devices showed no signs of explosives, Naperville Cmdr. David Hoffman said.
The suitcase was discovered this morning after witnesses saw two men place it in bushes along Ellsworth Street adjacent the station.
As a precaution, police evacuated the 5th Avenue train station, stopped all train traffic through town on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad and directed area schools to keep students inside.
Hoffman said there are no indications of any criminal activity in connection with the incident, but police are eager to talk to the two men who were seen hiding the suitcase.
One of the men is described as 30 to 40 years old, of average height and weight with medium length dark hair and a thick mustache. He was last seen wearing a blue jacket with some type of logo on the upper left breast, dark pants, white shoes and was pulling a dark-colored duffle bag on a cart.
The second man is described as 25 to 35 years old, of average height and weight, with medium length feathered brown hair. He was last seen wearing a tan jacket, blue jeans and possibly carrying a green duffle bag.
Hoffman said both subjects were last seen walking south into the commuter tunnel that passes under the railroad tracks.
Anyone with information concerning the men or the incident is asked to contact the Naperville Police Department Investigation Unit at (630) 420-6726.
