Student hurt in explosion
Northwestern University says a graduate student was injured in a science lab explosion.
A school spokeswoman says Jason Nicholas was mixing compounds in a glass container when it exploded. He suffered a puncture wound to the abdomen and burns and cuts to his face. Nicholas was taken to nearby Evanston Hospital.
Officials don't immediately have his condition. The blast Tuesday happened in Cook Hall. It's a university building used for science and engineering classes. The lab was temporarily evacuated but the building remains open.
