Mother, son critical after accident in Elgin

A mother and son are in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle in Elgin Tuesday, police said.

The mother, 38-year-old Rocio Jasso, and her 4-year-old son, Sergio, were struck at Dwight and S. Liberty streets around 2:40 p.m., Elgin police said.

They were taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin where they are in critical condition, police said.

Police determined they were struck by a southbound vehicle driven by an 18-year-old female. No charges have been filed against the driver yet. Police are investigating.
