Viking school students collecting books for Chicago schools
Viking Middle School in Gurnee is collecting new and gently-used children's books that will be donated to public elementary schools in Chicago where 70 percent or more of the students are reading below grade-level.
The book drive will run throughout the school year.
The school is asking for books that are enjoyable, fun reading for children ages 5 through 13.
The force behind the book drive is Book Worm Angels, a not-for-profit organization that seeks to put lending libraries in each classroom in Chicago elementary schools.
Anyone with children's books in good condition can bring them to Viking School LRC, 4460 Grand Ave., Gurnee, from now until the end of the school year.
