Time to apply for Elgin's home-repair grants

Elgin homeowners can apply for funding to rehab their homes through Wednesday at the Elgin city hall, 150 Dexter Court.

Property owners may qualify for a maximum of up to $15,000, depending upon household income, to do everything from exterior maintenance to improving the safety of their home.

Funding is available from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the 2007-08 project year. Applicants must meet federal HUD income guidelines to qualify with grants available to low- and moderate-income households.

A random selection of about 50 properties will be conducted and an eligibility list established for grant distribution after proper income qualifications and project eligibility is conducted.

For information, call the city's community development department at (847) 931-5910.
