Pettersen leaves field behind, leads another LPGA tournament

Topping a tour leaderboard for the fifth straight round and eighth in the last 11, Suzann Pettersen left everyone else behind Saturday in the Honda LPGA Thailand in Pattaya, Thailand, birdieing five of the last seven holes for a bogey-free 9-under 63.

Pettersen had a 20-under 196 total and a 7-stroke lead. She had 2-stroke advantages the first two days at Siam Country Club, opening with rounds of 65 and 68 on the Pattaya Old Course.

English Solheim Cup teammate Laura Davies was second, a stroke ahead of American Paula Creamer. Davies and Creamer, paired together in the group ahead of Pettersen and Canadian Alena Sharp, had matching 66s. Sharp (72) was 9 under along with Australians Rachel Hetherington (68) and Katherine Hull (68).

Annika Sorenstam shot her second straight 68 to get to 8 under. The 10-time major champion is making her first start since early September and eighth since returning from neck and back injuries. She won the last of 69 tour titles in September 2006.

Glen sur mer Classic: Making a huge move up the leaderboard, Briny Baird's 8-birdie, 1-bogey effort through 15 holes got him to 14 under and within 2 shots of leaders Bob Estes and Daniel Chopra during the suspended third round at the Ginn sur mer Classic at Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Estes and Chopra made it through 11 holes of their third rounds, before play was halted at 6:38 p.m. Both were at 16 under for the tournament; Estes was 2 under in his third round, Chopra was 3 under, and they each left long birdie putts at the par-3 12th when they headed in for the evening.

By day's end, 13 players were within five shots of the lead, setting the stage for what could be a wild Sunday on an already-wet course.

Charles Schwab Championship: Denis Watson shot a 4-under 68 to take a 1-stroke lead over defending champion Jim Thorpe and Brad Bryant into the final round of the Champion Tour's season-ending Charles Schwab Championship in Sonoma, Calif.

Mallorca Classic: Robert-Jan Derksen of the Netherlands held a 1-stroke lead in the Mallorca Classic in Son Servera, Mallorca before play was suspended for the third straight day. Derksen was 1 under through 15 holes to lead with a 10-under total before play was suspended because of darkness with 18 players still on the course. Gregory Bourdy completed his round, shooting 64 for a 9-under 201. He shared second place with fellow Frenchman Jean-Francois Lucquin, who was even after 15 holes.
