New configuration does not help at all

Whoever thought this new configuration at Fairfield and Gilmer would take care of traffic backups was clearly mistaken. In my opinion it has proven to just complicate traffic issues (along with a few accidents already reported there). Where there use to be a four-way stop, there is now only a stop at Fairfield; Gilmer does not stop, and the same is true for traffic coming off Gilmer wanting to turn left onto Fairfield; Fairfield traffic does not stop. At best this configuration should have allowed for merging traffic in either direction.

Whoever approved this new configuration clearly did not understand the traffic issues at this intersection. What would have worked better here would have been to keep the intersection as it was, add left-turn lanes in all directions, along with a traffic light.

Whoever studied and approved this $9.2 million project clearly missed the mark and should be held accountable for traffic issues still accumulating there.
