Let public in on school discussions
There has been a lot of discussion the last few weeks about Metea Valley High School and its potential location. Unfortunately, the Indian Prairie Unit District 204 School Board had made it hard for the public to participate in that discussion.
Mark Metzger, being the school board president, has the discretion and responsibility to make the agenda for the board. He has chosen at each special meeting to hold public comment after a two-hour-plus closed door executive session.
This may meet the letter of the law (the Illinois Open Meetings Act), but it sure doesn't follow the spirit or intent of the law.
I urge the members of the board to embrace the opinions of the community they represent on this strategic and potentially costly issue. To encourage participation of the community, allow their voice to be heard, and schedule public comment before the executive session.
