Police beat

• Hector Ortega, 38, of 2002 Berkshire Circle #H, was charged with battery and resisting a police officer Monday, police said. Ortega's bond was set at $2,000 and he was taken to the Kane County jail. His next court date is next Tuesday at the Kane County Judicial Center.

Elgin

• An Elgin man was arrested Tuesday for traffic offenses on Elgin's west side, police said. Deandre Simon, 21, of 433 Amanda Circle, was cited for fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer, driving while license suspended, no insurance and driving without vehicle registration, police said. Simon was unable to post a $1,000 bond and remains in the Elgin lockup. He is scheduled to appear in Elgin Branch Court next Tuesday.

• A blue 2006 Mitsubishi Galant was stolen from Mulberry Lane on either Monday or Tuesday.

• Two drivers were sent to area hospitals following a traffic accident at Alft Drive and Capital Street at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday. A 2003 Saturn Ion driven by Antoinette Salvesen, 74, of 1156 Candida Road, Elgin, struck a 2007 Chevrolet HHR driven by Jeffrey L. Jones, 48, of 3328 Chadwick Drive, Rockford. Salvesen was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign and is scheduled to appear in court in Elgin on Dec. 4.
