Flames Heavyweight: The Lake Zurich Flames Big-10 Heavyweight team brought their record to 2-0 with a 26-24 win against Barrington. After an early Barrington score, the Flames bounced back to tie the game with 30-yard run by quarterback Zack Till.

The offensive line with Adam Cantwell opened up holes for running backs Mark Weber, Tyler Brandt, Andrew Lehtinen and Michael Rantis. A 30-yard run by Rantis in the second quarter gave the Flames their second touchdown to tie the game.

Tackles by Jimmy Bohn, Mike Shields, Zach Johnson, Declan McGarry, Mark Weber and Evan Williams resulted in negative yardage for Barrington. Dominick Frelas and Taylor Coleman made critical stops on 4th down to give Lake Zurich the ball. A fumble recovery by Michael Rantis and interceptions by Jeff O'Brien and Till stopped Barrington offensive drives. A blocked kick by Carl Miller gave the Flames a critical point advantage, holding Barrington to an 18-12 lead.

A 3-yard pass to Jack Lynn in the end zone in the third quarter, followed by a successful point-after try by Zach Strimel, gave the Flames the lead again. Barrington came back with another score, but with 19 seconds remaining, Till completed a 30-yard pass to Sean Eder in the end zone for a touchdown and the win.

Hockey

Conference victory: The Stevenson Patriots traveled to the far south suburbs recently, and came away with a 3-0 victory over the Mount Carmel Caravan in a HIT conference game. Stevenson JV is now 2-0 in the conference.

Goalie Josh Schmaren made a save in the first minute of the game and shortly after Stevenson kept the puck in the offensive zone until Myles Lobus was able to convert a pass from Marc Weiner with a quick wrist shot from just outside the right post. The Patriots had several scoring opportunities later in the period on two consecutive shifts in which Kollin Fairbanks, Gordon Ochi and Justin One cycled the puck to and kept it away from Mount Carmel's defenseman.

In the second period, Max Mora intercepted a Mount Carmel pass and made a quick outlet pass to One at center ice, who moved the puck to Fairbanks, who scored.

Stevenson continued its dominance in the third period and scored on a goal by Ricky Razdolsky with an assist from Jake Gould.
