Lake County woman struck, killed getting her mail
A woman walking across the street to retrieve mail was struck and killed by a car Wednesday night in Old Mill Creek.
A minivan driven by Billie Roberts, 71, of Round Lake, was heading southbound on Hunt Club Road near Wadsworth Road when it struck the pedestrian at 10:42 p.m., said Sgt. James Blackwood of the Lake County sheriff's department.
Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said the identity of the woman is being withheld pending family notification.
He said the incident took place near Tempel Farms, home of the Tempel Lipizzans, and that the 39-year-old woman was staying or living at the farm.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Blackwood said.
Blackwood said the accident remains under investigation, and that no citations have been issued.
