Grammy winner to perform at ECC
Three-time Grammy winner Shawn Colvin will perform a solo concert on the Blizzard Theatre stage at Elgin Community College's Visual and Performing Arts Center Saturday.
Colvin's talents as a singer, songwriter and guitarist combine for richly-deserved status as a contemporary folk icon.
"I'm lucky," Colvin said. "I built my career really slowly, started small, very intimately. I just toured a lot -- the whole grassroots thing. I didn't have a hit until I was well into my recording career."
Although she was awarded a Best Contemporary Folk Grammy for her 1989 debut disc "Steady On," Colvin didn't reach a broad mainstream audience until 1998, when her story of a housewife's fiery revenge, "Sunny Came Home," became a top-10 pop hit, garnering both Song of the Year and Record of the Year Grammys.
The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Blizzard Theatre at ECC's Arts Center on the main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Tickets are $38/$34.
Tickets are available online at www.elgin.edu/arts or at the ECC box office in the Arts Center. Box office hours are noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
