Briefs: Basketball camp

The Kevin Boyle basketball camp is Saturday and Sunday at St. Charles East High School. The cost is $75. Children in second through sixth grades meet from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday and 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday. See film on Vietnam

Award-winning filmmaker Gordon Quinn brings a class on documentary filmmaking to Geneva from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Geneva History Center, 113 S. Third St. Kartemquin films will present "Vietnam, Long Time Coming," followed by a q-and-a session and the class. The film is about a 1,200-mile bike ride across Vietnam. Admission is $5. Test prep available

Aurora University will host review sessions to prepare students for the Illinois State Board of Education Basic Skills Test. The next test is Nov. 3. from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, review math word problems, proportions, algebra, pre-algebra skills and logic. From 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 1, discuss language arts and writing. Both are in Room 102 of the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora. Registration is required. The cost is $25 for the public and free to AU students and alumni. Child Advocacy benefit

A Halloween party to benefit the Kane County Child Advocacy Center will be held Tuesday at the Fox Valley Golf & Country Club. The "Growing Miracles Dinner" will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The $50 per person ticket includes hors d'oeuvres and drinks. Costumes are encouraged but not required. Boy Scout award fete

Former CEO Richard J. McCann and Oberweis Dairy will be honored for their dedication to the community and the welfare and development of its youth at the Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Citizen and Community Leader luncheon at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Q Center, 1405 N. Fifth Ave., St. Charles. Tickets are $150. Three Fires Council serves 35,000 youth in DuPage, Kane, Kendall and DeKalb counties and parts of Will and Cook counties. Police facilities get OK

Aurora aldermen on Tuesday approved three contracts totaling $4.76 million to begin work on a 200,000-square-foot parking garage and a 40,000-square-foot training and support facility for the city's new police complex at 1200 E. Indian Trail Road. The complex also includes a main headquarters facility, which will be built later. The entire project, which could be complete in late 2009 or 2010, is estimated to cost around $75 million, city leaders say.
