Wisconsin man killed by semi in Mundelein
A 32-year-old Kenosha man was killed after being struck by a semitrailer truck about 6:10 a.m. Tuesday in Mundelein.
Mundelein police and fire departments and the Lake County coroner's office responded to a call to the parking lot of Con-way Central Express, a trucking company located at 957 Tower Road in Mundelein.
The victim, whose name is being withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a Con-way employee.
The truck, a 2006 Sterling semitrailer, had just unloaded its trailer and was traveling west through the parking lot at normal speed, police said. It is owned by Con-Way Freight Inc. out of Fort Wayne, Ind.
The driver has not been charged or ticketed. Police are awaiting the result of a toxicology test, although there was no indication that alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor, police said.
Police and members of the Major Crash Assistance Team are still investigating the crash.
Mundelein Police Deputy Chief Mike O'Brien said the victim had just finished doing something in the trucking company's yard and was walking back to the building.
"The driver said that he never saw this person, felt a collision and when he got out saw the guy," he said. "It was just an unfortunate accident."
