Briefs: Jean Gaines honored

A tree and a park bench will be dedicated in honor of Jean Gaines' 30th anniversary as director of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce. The event is at 8 this morning at Island Park, in front of the Mill Race Inn, 4 E. State St., Geneva.

Library board to meet

The Sugar Grove Library board has a special meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at 54 Snow St. to discuss zoning documentation, building design and acquisition of real estate for a new library.

West Aurora choir concert

The West Aurora High School choirs will present their fall concert, "Credo ... Words to Live By," at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium, 1201 W. New York St. Admission is $2. Mixed Ensemble, Varsity Singers, Bel Canto, Girls Chorus, Madrigal Singers, A Cappella Choir, STUDyhall and Girls Glee will perform selections in which the lyrics contain thoughts worth repeating. Meg Papadolias and Jon McLear will direct.

Boyle basketball camp

The Kevin Boyle basketball camp is Saturday and Sunday at St. Charles East High School. The cost is $75. Children in second through sixth grades meet from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday and 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday. Test prep available

Aurora University will host review sessions to prepare students for the Illinois State Board of Education Basic Skills Test. The next test is Nov. 3. From 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, review math word problems, proportions, algebra, pre-algebra skills and logic. From 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 1, discuss language arts and writing. Both are in Room 102 of the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora. The cost is $25 for the public and free to AU students and alumni. To register, call (630) 844-5520.

Camp now or wait

This is the final week of the season for camping with the Kane County Forest Preserve. Sunday is the last day for camping at Paul Wolff Campground in the Burnidge Forest Preserve, 38W235 Big Timber Road, Elgin. The district's other campground, Buffalo Park in Algonquin, closed earlier this season due to flooding. The camping season will reopen May 1. Visit www.kaneforest.com for more information.
