Give Campton Hills a chance
It is close to election time, and the anti-Campton Hills forces continue their unending disruptive activities.
It's the same cast of characters: developers and their attorneys creating a vocal minority making outrageous claims. They claim 89 percent of the people don't want the villageā¦but the village carried over 60 percent of the vote in the election 6 months ago. Check the statistics⦠for an off cycle election, turnout was very high, contrary to their rhetoric.
What has the village done to create such animosity and urgency to undo what the majority of voters approved just six months ago?
Have taxes gone up? No! Is there a plan to raise taxes? No! Is the police force on budget and schedule? Yes! Is the budget being properly managed? Yes!
So, what is the problem? Where is the issue? I suspect the trail leads back to the fight over whether the residents or developers eventually control the area. I prefer to see the residents in control.
I strongly object to the attempt to have the issue returned to the ballot so quickly. Six months ago the majority of those who cared enough to vote said yes. Where was this overwhelming anti-village majority then?
The majority that voted for a village deserve a chance to do what they said they could. They have lived up to every promise. These people deserve the right to create a functioning, representative government without the ongoing distractions from the petty interests that twist and misrepresent everything that happens.
If you want change, do it the democratic way, get on the ballot and run for office. Stop trying to use the lawyers to undo what the voters said they want. When developers and lawyers align, it is a powerful force. Only the voters are powerful enough to stop it.
