Round Lake Area Park District notes

Special Community Days: Celebrate various people, cultures and traditions of the world from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesdays from Nov. 5 to 19. Activities will include A Marching Band, Shichi Go San and We Give Thanks. Registration is required by Oct. 31 at the Robert W. Rolek Community Center or the Sports Center. Special Community Days are for ages 2 to 5 with a parent and will meet in the Children's Neighborhood Museum Activity Center.

Mom and Me Fantasy Fun: Girls ages 3 to 8 can dress-up in their favorite special outfit for this fantasy class with mom from 6:30 to 7:40 p.m. Nov. 16. Each couple will make a unicorn or a stuffed animal unicorn purse, and choose a personalized T-shirt or a wallet for the purse. The park district will provide stamps, glitter paints and embellishments. A second fantasy activity will be designing a crystal glass necklace with a fairy angel charm. The fairy tale ends with a snack and a sprinkle of fairy dust. Register at the Robert W. Rolek Community Center or the Sports Center.

Youth Basketball: Registration for the Youth Basketball program at the Round Lake Area Park District is now taking place for first- through eighth-graders. The youth basketball program focuses on providing all participants with an equal opportunity to learn and play basketball in an organized and fun atmosphere. Each team will practice once during the week. Practice times vary. One game per week will be played, generally on Saturdays. The deadline to register for this program is noon Dec. 21. Register by Dec. 14 and receive a discount. Register at the Robert W. Rolek Community Center or the Sports Center.

Sports programs: The park district offers the following sports activities for all ages. Some programs begin in September, so sign up early at the Robert W. Rolek Community Center or the Sports Center:

• All Star Sports, ages 4 to 7.

• Preschool Superstars, ages 3 to 4.

• Game Time, ages 4 to 5.

• Tumbling Tots, ages 3 to 4.

• Lil Pint T-Ball, ages 4 to 6.

• Mighty Mites Soccer, age 3.

• Pee Wee Soccer, ages 4 to 6.

• Jr. Soccer, ages 7 to 9.

• Instructional Basketball, kindergarten to second grade.

• Tennis Lessons, ages 5 to 11.

• Youth Flag Football, first to eighth grade.

• Youth Dodgeball, sixth to eighth grade.

• Basketball Tournament, ages sixth to 12th grade.

• Go Girl Go, third to eighth grade.

• All-Around Sports No School Days, first to sixth grade.

• AYSO Indoor Soccer Tournament, ages 10 to 12.

• Youth 3 v 3 Indoor Soccer Leagues, ages 9 to high school.

• Baton Twirling, ages 3 to 5 and up.

• Karate, ages 5 to adult.

• Youth Basketball, first through eighth grade.

Reach One on Fridays: Reach One on Fridays is celebrating its seventh summer of providing recreational opportunities on Friday evenings to kids ages 9 through 15.

Reach One, with the Ranger Police Department of the Round Lake Area Park District, has helped build bridges between children of the Round Lake Area and local law enforcement officers. Kids enjoy food, swimming, games, sports contests and prizes.

There are designated bus stops at Timbercreek, Rosewood, Meadowgreen, Cedar Villas and Cambridge Courts. Officers will be visiting homes in these areas to invite kids to join the fun on Fridays.
