It's beginning to look like Christmas

Generally you won't see anything about Christmas in this space at least until after Halloween.

But we thought you'd want to know about Christmas at the Faire Friday, Saturday and Oct. 28.

Fifty artists present their handmade gifts, home decor items and seasonal food at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton.

An example is Susan Havens-Morris of Middleburg Folk Art Studio in St. Charles, who sculpts in papier-mache and fabric.

Her Dash-Away Reindeer is oversized for such spots as above the fireplace. It is $125.

She also makes angels that start at $60.

Today is the deadline for reservations for Thursday's harvest dinner and early shopping. Tickets are $27 with proceeds benefiting Multiple Myeloma Research.

Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 28. Admission is $6.

The DuPage County Fairgrounds, 2015 W. Manchester Road, is east of County Farm Road south of North Avenue and north of Roosevelt Road.

The show will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 3 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 4. Tickets are $12 and are good for both days.

Never quit talking about gardening

Fall is a time to continue enjoying our gardens and to collect tips for future years.

The October Cottage Living quotes a Maine gardener, someone who surely has it rougher than we do.

Find out what you grow well and grow lots of it.

On a slow day -- probably a Tuesday -- go to your favorite nursery. Talk with folks till you find one who can recommend special plants. She recommends finding the plant buyer.

Don't forget to have a party in January for your gardening friends. Everyone can bring a seed catalog.
