LSU sinks Auburn on TD pass with 0:01 left

Matt Flynn threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Demetrius Byrd with a second left to lift fifth-ranked LSU to a 30-24 victory over No. 18 Auburn on Saturday night in Baton Rouge, La., keeping LSU's national title hopes alive and well.

With South Florida losing earlier in the week, LSU is certain to move up to at least third in the BCS standings, behind only Ohio State and possibly Boston College, which was idle this weekend.

Flynn finished with 319 yards passing and 3 touchdowns

LSU's Jacob Hester dived for the pylon to score the go-ahead touchdown early in the fourth quarter after catching a swing-pass on third-and-5. He led a patient rushing attack that amassed 169 yards, all but 40 in the second half.

Auburn quarterback Brandon Cox, taking hits in the pocket but rolling out effectively when necessary, turned in a gutty performance, passing for 199 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Oklahoma 17, Iowa St. 7: Chris Brown ran for 2 second-half touchdowns, and No. 4 Oklahoma (7-1, 3-1 Big 12) survived a major scare in beating host Iowa State (1-7, 0-4). D.J. Wolfe's end-zone interception midway through the fourth quarter helped turn the tide for the Sooners, who won at Iowa State for the 20th straight time.

Vanderbilt 17, S. Carolina 6: Mackenzi Adams threw 2 touchdown passes, and D.J. Moore had 2 interceptions as Vanderbilt (4-3, 2-3 SEC) upset host No. 6 South Carolina (6-2, 3-2) and ended coaches Steve Spurrier's unblemished record against the Commodores that began in 1987. Spurrier came in 14-0 all time against Vandy, which hadn't beaten a team ranked this highly since topping No. 6 LSU 7-6 in 1937.

Oregon 55, Washington 34: Jonathan Stewart rushed for a career-high 251 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Crenshaw added a pair of second-half scoring runs as No. 7 Oregon (6-1, 3-1 Pac-10) held off host Washington (2-5, 0-4).

Stewart's 32 carries were 7 more than his previous high. Stewart rushed for 144 yards at halftime, had 198 at the end of the three quarters, and became the first Oregon back to rush for 200 yards since Ontario Smith set a school record with 285 yards against Washington State in 2001. The Ducks finished with a school-record 465 rushing yards.

Florida 45, Kentucky 37: Tim Tebow threw for a career-high four touchdowns and visiting No. 14 Florida (5-2, 3-2) rebounded from back-to-back losses with its 21st straight win against No. 8 Kentucky (6-2, 2-2). Tebow connected on 18 of 26 passes for 256 yards.

W. Virginia 39, Miss. St. 13: Pat White threw 2 touchdown passes and ran for another score in the first half, and Steve Slaton rushed for 127 yards and a score, leading host No. 9 West Virginia (6-1) over Mississippi State (4-4). The Mountaineers scored on their first five possessions and weren't threatened.

UCLA 30, California 21: With California in UCLA territory, Alterraun Verner intercepted Nate Longshore's pass and sprinted 76 yards to the end zone with 1:33 remaining to seal the host Bruins' (5-2, 4-0 Pac-10) victory over the No. 10 Bears (5-2, 2-2). Kahlil Bell rushed for 142 yards on 22 carries, and Kai Forbath kicked 3 field goals for UCLA.
