Waubonsie Valley @ Larkin

Waubonsie Valley (6-2, 4-1) at Larkin (4-4, 4-2)

Upstate Eight Conference

Game time: 7:30 p.m., today, Elgin High School.

Last year: Larkin 27, Waubonsie 23.

Last week: Waubonsie 55, South Elgin 13; Larkin 53, Elgin 35.

Outlook: A win gives Waubonsie a share of its first UEC title since 1997, plus a possible home playoff game. The Warriors would love to repay Larkin for its late touchdown in 2006 that effectively kept Waubonsie out of the playoffs. Against a team that averages 40 points (and allows 39.5) the best defense is ball-control offense, meaning center Nick Capristo and friends cutting holes for Kenny Harrington, Scott Mankivsky and Rich Tronolone, off a career day of 167 yards, 2 TDs on 8 carries. If the defense can't tackle Royals receivers Nick Bee (1,046 yards, 13 TDs) and Ryan Shriver, quarterback Cam Kinley will make it a track meet. He's thrown a school-record 34 touchdown passes and his 2,688 passing yards are 149 shy of another record.
