Stop the next war before it even starts

Despite the fact that the vast majority of Americans want U.S. troops out of Iraq, the Bush administration is banging the drum for next war, which would target Iran. The fact that we have a president that is delusional cannot be a surprise to anyone at this stage but the fact that "Democratic" presidential candidates are also pounding the war drum is outrageous. Haven't enough Iraqis and Americans lost their lives in this tragic adventure to enforce U.S. hegemony in the Middle East? We cannot wait or hope that the Democratic Party will develop a spine on the issue of war. We, the people, must take the lead before more carnage is done in our name and with our tax dollars that should be used here at home. The real possibility that nuclear weapons could come into play should be sobering for everyone. Irresponsible action by the Bush administration will not make us safer.

If you want to stop this war in Iraq and stop another "crusade" by George Bush, you must act immediately. Every congressperson and senator should have their offices flooded with phone calls demanding they act now to stop the madness. Every call-in talk show should be targeted with callers demanding discussion on this issue rather than the latest celebrity mishap. The campaign offices of every Democratic presidential candidate should be contacted by concerned citizens demanding that they speak out now, not after the fact!

In the event that the United States or a proxy such as Israel launches an attack on Iran, there is an emergency response protest already planned by hundreds of Chicagoland organizations. There will be a nonviolent emergency response at 5 p.m. at the Federal Plaza (Dearborn and Adams Street) the day the bombing begins, with a follow-up protest at the same time and place the day after.

Finally, if we want real peace in the Middle East, we must demand justice for the Palestinian people and end to the apartheid policies of Israel.
