Runners responsible to train, run safely

I read the articles in today's paper pointing fingers and blame on Chicago Marathon race organizers and the city. I have not read or heard a word about the runners' responsibility.

Why do they enter when they are not conditioned to "run" the distance? This is supposed to be a "race," not a walk in the park. And what about common sense, like stopping if you are thirsty and there is no water? Or if you are feeling overheated?

Have people become machines with no ability to reason and take responsibility for their actions? Are we put here only to be individuals waiting for the opportunity to sue?
