Wheeling Park District: The Wheeling Park District Youth Basketball program is accepting registration through Friday at the Community Recreation Center, 333 W. Dundee Road, Wheeling.

Division WWS for kindergarten and Division 1 for first and second grade are coed and emphasize fundamentals and skill development over competition. As divisions progress, so does the competition. There is a concentration on sportsmanship and fundamentals in all divisions.

WWS plays 10 games from Dec. 2 through Feb. 17. Practices are Sundays before the games. Division 1 plays a 12-game schedule, from Dec. 1 through March 1, and practices one day a week. Divisions 2 to 5, for boys and girls in third to 10th grade, practice once a week and play a 14-game schedule from Nov. 30 through March 15. A Wheeling Park District jersey is required for all players and can be purchased at the Guest Service Desk at the Community Recreation Center.

WWS and Division 1 are put together using friendship requests and school affiliation. School and friendship requests will not be taken for divisions 2 to 5. To achieve balanced skill levels on the teams, participants in divisions 2 to 5 are required to attend a rating clinic. The rating clinics for Division 2 girls, Division 2 boys and Division 3 girls will be Saturday. The rating clinics for all other divisions take place Oct. 27.

A parents' meeting will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Nov. 1 at the CRC. Register online at www.wheelingparkdistrict.com or at the Guest Service Desk at the CRC. For information, call Ryan McCalley at (847) 465-2941.
