Bums to throw out nearly everywhere
Sick of corruption, fiscal irresponsibility and wanting a change of policy in Iraq, voters decided to "throw the bums out" and gave Democrats control of the Congress.
But what do voters now? They have learned that the new "bums" are not any better than the old ones.
In fact they may even be worse. Democrats with the power to wind down the war have backed down in every showdown with the president over a timetable for a troop withdrawal.
What a depressing choice for voters in 2008 -- Republicans who support a plan that would keep U.S. troops in the middle of a civil war or Democrats who are weak-kneed and spineless.
The framers of the Constitution would be appalled at how the Congress has abdicated its powers and responsibilities. If voters gave Democrats a mandate to change the policy in Iraq and they are too cowardly to do so, then they should throw those bums out, too.
