Abortion should not be condoned
In a recent Fence Post column there was a piece headlined "Abortion is, and should be, legal."
It's amazing how many people accept the argument that it's only religious beliefs that form a case against abortion. The author of the piece states that she "has yet to find an argument for banning choice on abortion, especially in the early months."
How easy it is to take God's gift of life that we all hold in common as being something that can just be dismissed and discarded (usually) for convenience.
Perhaps we're falling further away from the scientific fact that once conceived, that tiny and innocent being is much more than something that only "has the potential for human life" -- rather, a precious and fragile being that is at our mercy and depending on its God-given chance to develop and grow up to be like every one of us.
It's also interesting to see how many advocates of abortion prefer to call pro-life supporters the anti-choice crowd. I wonder why it's so painful to call it the way it is.
I guess the real issue is how many people have fallen away from their religious beliefs or who may have no conception of what a crime it is to take away the most precious gift there is.
If you don't understand that we all start out our journey at conception, I'm not sure there is any way to eventually end the pointless arguments that come up on this issue.
