Man to ride to help disabled athletes
There is no such thing as a leisurely bicycle ride for Arlington Heights resident John Cosentino.
John has averaged 2,500 miles each year for the past two years and has completed 11 century rides, which are rides of 100 miles in one day.
John will ride in the Adventure Corps' Fall Century bicycle ride on Oct. 27. He'll ride 108 miles in one day through Death Valley in California to raise money for the Challenged Athletes Foundation. So far, John has already raised more than $700 toward his goal of $1,000.
Help him out.

Golf team to be honored: St. Viator High School will host a rally to celebrate the boys golf team's first state title in school history on Monday. The rally will follow the annual St. Viator Day Mass and is scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m. On Oct. 13, the golf team took home the inaugural IHSA Class 3A state tournament trophy. They finished with a 5-stroke victory over second-place Quincy High School.
Sticker time: It's that time of year again.
Arlington Heights 2008 vehicle stickers are on sale now through the end of December. The stickers must be placed on residents' windshields by January 1 to avoid any penalties. A penalty of $10 will be charged to stickers purchased after Jan. 1.
The stickers costs $30 each for passenger cars; $12 for seniors over age 65 (limit one per family); $12 per car for residents with valid handicapped plates (limit one per family), permanent placards or disability certificates. Dog tags will cost $12 and proof of a current rabies vaccination is needed.
Vehicle stickers and dog tags can be purchased by mailing in registration forms that went out in late September. The stickers can also be purchased in person at the finance counter of the temporary village hall, at 3436 N. Kennicott Ave.
Stickers are also available at the Arlington Heights Senior Center, 1801 W. Central Road; the Arlington Heights Currency Exchange, 118 E. Wing St.; International Currency Exchange, 202 E. Golf Road and the Algonquin/Wilke Currency Exchange, 1764 W. Algonquin Road.
This year's sticker recognizes the 100th anniversary of the Banta House, which is on the grounds of the Arlington Heights Historical Museum. The Banta House was the home of Minnie Muller Banta and her husband, Nathaniel Moore Banta. The Muller's house is also a part of the museum complex.
