Kiwanis thanks all for help this year

As we complete our 43rd year in St. Charles, the Noon Kiwanis Club wishes to thank all the individuals and businesses who have contributed to our fundraising activities during the year. These activities, including the Peanut Day drive, Rose Days Sale, golf outing and others, raised over $72,000 in donations.

Because of this generosity, our club has been able to award monetary grants to over 30 organizations dealing with children in the Tri-Cities area. These include Association for Individual Development, American Red Cross, CASA Kane County, Community Crisis Center, Living Well Cancer Center, Fox Valley Hospice, Fox Valley Special Rec. Association, Girl Scouts Fox Valley Chapter, Glenwood School, Easter Seals, Horses Healing Hearts, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Kids Hope United, Larkin Center, Lazarus House, Literacy Volunteers, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Riverwoods Christian Center, Royal Family Kids Camp, Salvation Army, Shelter Assistance Committee, St. Charles Teen Center, Three Rivers Council Boy Scouts, Tri City Family Services, Tri City Health Partnership, Tri City School Supply, Elgin Well Child Center and Young Life.

Our club also sponsored four $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Two scholarships at St. Charles North and two scholarships at St. Charles East were presented.

The Kiwanis Noon Club sponsors the builders clubs at Thompson and Haines Middle Schools and has started a new builders club at Glenwood School. The club also sponsors the key clubs at both St. Charles East and St. Charles North high schools. These clubs play a special role in developing future generations of leaders by teaching community service and leadership skills to young people.

Community service is an important part of Kiwanis. Kiwanians sponsored the Fox Valley Special Recreation Assoc. "Kids Day In The Park" both financially and with over 40 volunteers. Colonial Cafe donated ice cream for over 1,000 children. We also volunteer as service projects at the Northern Illinois Food Distribution Center, Salvation Army bell ringing, North Gateway cleanup, and with the St. Charles Downtown Partnership on various projects and parades.

Kiwanis is an organization of service and community minded individuals who support children and young adults around the world. One of the top priorities for the St. Charles Noon Club is, "Young Children: Priority One." This initiative places continuing focus on serving the needs of children in the Fox Valley, one community and one child at a time. Our club currently has 77 members of the St. Charles community working on this commitment to children. Our meetings are held every Tuesday at noon at the Mid America Bank building at 2600 East Main. If you are interested in joining Kiwanis please call Stew Liechti at (630) 443-9366 for membership information.
