World War II pilot receives Illinois funeral, 60 years later

CARTERVILLE -- Maurice Emil Gentry's plane was shot down over New Guinea more than 60 years ago. The remains of the World War II pilot were buried with military honors Tuesday in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville.
Gentry's plane went missing in 1943. It was found in 1951, but Gentry's remains weren't discovered until 2003. They were identified in 2005 when a nephew was called for DNA testing.
Gentry's widow, Elizabeth Gentry Anderson, now lives in Davis, California. She said the memorial took her back to the couple's days as young newlyweds in Chicago.
