Plenty of marathon 'stupid' to go around
At least one Chicago sports columnist has suggested that the toll this year's heat took on some of the Chicago marathon runners be blamed on the "idiotic" and "foolhardy" runners and not on the city and marathon officials.
Mayor Daley has also suggested that marathoners, and others, be more responsible for their own welfare when engaging in strenuous outdoor activity in the heat.
But if entering this year's race was foolhardy, idiotic and irresponsible, why did city and marathon officials permit the race to be run in the first place?
As a famous marathoner once said, "Stupid is as stupid does."
