Elgin man charged in home invasion

A 32-year-old Elgin man could face prison time after, authorities said, he broke open the door to a pregnant woman's apartment Saturday and bloodied her nose.

Jessie D. Kidd, of 314 Hendee St., is charged with felony home invasion and aggravated assault of a pregnant woman, according to court records.

He is being held at the Kane County jail on $75,000 bond. If convicted of the home invasion, a Class X felony, he could face a prison term of six to 30 years.

About 11 p.m., Kidd kicked in an apartment door on the 1200 block of Fleetwood Drive and was arrested shortly afterward, according to Elgin Police spokeswoman Ann Dinges.

Dinges said the woman ended up with a bloody nose, but the fetus was not injured.

Saturday's incident was not Kidd's first brush with the law, court records show.

Since 1995, he's had numerous citations for speeding and driving without insurance.

He also was convicted of misdemeanor cannabis possession after a traffic stop in 1997, felony delivery of cocaine and aggravated battery in 1998, felony delivery of cannabis in 1999, criminal trespass in 2000, and manufacturing/delivery of cocaine in 2003, of which he received a four-year prison term.

Kidd is due in court Oct. 26.
