Get Blues and Tattoos and help Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry
A Blues and Tattoos Halloween party at Nello's Motorcycles will benefit the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry.
The party will start at 8 p.m. Oct. 27 at Nello's, 555 S. River St. Entertainment will include two bands, C.R.S. and the Aqualics, as well as fire-eaters, tarot card readers and a chili cook-off.
Ken's Creative Tattoos will provide the tattooing services.
Partygoers are asked to bring a donation of non-perishable food items for the food pantry.

Public comment:
Batavia officials will have an open house from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday to solicit public comments on the city's comprehensive plan.
The plan includes details on long-term land use, transportation, parks, environment, historic preservation and public facilities. Members of the plan commission and city staff members will be on hand to answer questions.
The plan is available through the city's Web site at www.cityofbatavia.net. The city council is scheduled to approve the plan later this year.
The open house will be in the city council chambers at city hall, 100 N. Island Ave.
Motivating visit
A nationally recognized motivational speaker will make a presentation at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Rotolo Middle School.
The Batavia Parent Academy is hosting Sean Stephenson, a licensed psychotherapist who was not predicted to survive after his birth.
He has broken bones more than 200 times due to a rare bone disease that causes his bones to be very fragile.
His speeches focus on not making excuses for behavior and standing up to problems.
Art in the city:
Michael Hardesty, instructor of sculpture at the Art Institute of Chicago, will present "Public Art: History, Social Importance and Controversies" at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Batavia Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave.
Hardesty will talk about the importance of public sculpture in building a sense of community. He is one of the judges for a competition to add sculpture pieces to the new finished Donovan Bridge.

River clean-up:
The Batavians for a Healthy River group will conduct a Batavia Creek cleanup from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Anyone interested in volunteering should park on Bond or Papermill drives and meet on the west side of Hart Road. Volunteers should wear work clothes and bring gloves, loppers and protective eyewear.

Free eye screening:
Hauser-Ross Eye Institute will offer free eye health screenings at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Eastside Community Center, 14 N. Van Buren St. No appointments are necessary. The screenings can detect treatable eye diseases. For more information, call (800) 243-2587.
