Check out MCC plan before complaining
A very vocal minority are missing the whole point of McHenry County College's master plan for campus expansion. Baseball is a means to an end. It enables the college to move forward on the construction of a Health, Wellness, and Athletic Complex (HWAC).
This complex provides the space to meet the expanded academic programs including health and wellness classes, student athletics and expansion of the college's fitness center. The college has recently added new certificates and degrees to prepare students to work in growing fields including nursing, fitness and other health and wellness occupations.
The HWAC plan includes classrooms, a lab, a state-of-the-art fitness center, locker room facilities, additional basketball and volleyball courts, batting cages, offices, a multipurpose room and an outdoor multi-sport stadium.
I am an employee at McHenry County College and I believe the college has exhibited fiscal responsibility through its creative funding method for this project. A partnership with the baseball franchise will allow the college to pay back debt certificates over a 20-year period from revenue generated from rentals of the indoor facilities and outdoor stadium, sponsorships and naming rights.
