Second gymnastics coach charged with child porn

A Hanover Park gymnastics coach has been charged with multiple counts of child pornography possession just days after his roommate was arrested on the same charges, police said this morning.

Vernor Pagulayan Gumila, 38, of 929 S. Third St., St. Charles, faces nine counts of the felony charge after police say a forensic examination of his computer uncovered nine images of child pornography.

Gumila is a coach at Gymkhana Gymnastics Club in Hanover Park, police said. He was arrested late Wednesday after his roommate and fellow gymnastics coach Shawn C. Bowlden, 33, was taken into custody on 10 counts of child pornography possession.

Police say there is no evidence suggesting Gumila or Bowlden, who worked at St. Charles Gymnastics Academy, had inappropriate contact with students.

Their home and computers were searched Wednesday morning after a monthlong investigation involving St. Charles police, the Kane County State's Attorney's Office and the Illinois Attorney General, authorities said.
