Police searching for would-be rapist in Lake Co.

Police today continued searching for a man who tried to rape a Grayslake-area woman near her home.

The attack occurred about 8:40 p.m. Monday at a farmhouse near Fairfield and Chardon roads, Lake County sheriff's police said.

The 50-year-old woman was walking to her house when the assailant jumped on her and tried to pull down her pants, police said.

The woman fought back and yelled for help, and a relative came to assist, police said, prompting the attacker to flee.

Police officers and police dogs searched the area but could not find the attacker.

Investigators believe the assailant had a vehicle nearby.

The attacker was described as about 6 feet tall with short-cropped hair or a buzz cut. He may have been wearing a blue jacket or a hooded sweatshirt, jeans and gym shoes, police said.

Police patrols have been increased in the area.

Anyone with information about the case should call the sheriff's office at (847) 377-4250.
