Briefs: Suspicious incident
The Kane County Sheriff's Department is investigating a suspicious incident near Seavey and Bliss roads in Blackberry Township at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. Two girls, 14 and 15, were walking along the road when a man driving a car with no license plates pulled over and asked if they needed a ride. The girls ran away and reported the incident to police. The car was a red mid-1990s Pontiac Grand Am or Grand Prix. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the sheriff's department at (630) 208-2024.
Candy Days fundraiser
Members of the North Aurora Lions Club and middle school students who are members of the affiliated Leo Club will be out today and Saturday for their annual Candy Days fundraiser. Lions and Leos will be at local stores throughout North Aurora exchanging rolls of candy for donations. Leos clubs operate at Jewel and Herget middle schools and this will be their first project of the year. North Aurora Lions historically send 100 percent of the proceeds from the Candy Days fundraiser back to the Lions of Illinois Foundation, which supports 13 programs, such as scholarships for sight- and hearing-impaired college students; purchasing eyeglasses, hearing aids and other equipment to enhance sight and hearing; offset expenses for sight and sound summer camp; and food baskets to senior citizens.
Clarinetist's recital today
Christine Bellomy, principal clarinet in the Cedar Rapids Symphony and second clarinet in the Quad City Symphony in Rock Island, will present a recital at 8 tonight in the Recital Hall in the Music Building on Lucinda Avenue at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb. She will be accompanied by a pianist. The program will consist of pieces by Maria Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Leo Weiner, Jerry Owen, Libby Larsen, and Joseph Horowitz. The recital is free. Marching band concert
The St. Charles East High School Marching Band will perform a free concert at 8 p.m. Monday. The show will include college fight songs and music from this year's halftime acts. It will be at the school football stadium, 1020 Dunham Road. Rain would move it indoors. Call (630) 377-4979, ext. 9936.
Aurora hands out lights
Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner will help promote a ComEd program encouraging customers to take advantage of discounts on energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs, in honor of "National Energy Efficiency Month." From 9 to 10 a.m. today at city hall, 44 E. Downer Place, ComEd people will pass out free, high-efficiency lightbulbs as part of the campaign, which offers discounts on 1 million bulbs.
