Man killed by Metra train in Elgin

An unidentified man was killed by a Metra train Wednesday night at Kimball Street in Elgin.

The train left the Big Timber station at 10:10 p.m. and was eastbound when the accident occurred.

The male pedestrian has not been identified but an autopsy will be done by the Kane County coroner later this afternoon.

A spokesman for Metra said there was a 51-minute delay at the Kimball Street crossing Wednesday evening until the trains were allowed to move again.

The Kimball Street Metra tracks was the site of three deaths on Dec. 8, 2006 when a van attempted to drive around the crossing gates.

Another 38-year-old man was killed by a Metra train near the same crossing on Sept. 16, 2004.
