Here's the answers to your questions
Last month, I asked for people to contact me with any questions they had about the Palatine area. I was surprised by the amount of responses I got.
Here are some of the questions and answers you wanted to know about. They've been edited for length.
Q. How strictly is the ordinance prohibiting cars from parking over the sidewalk enforced?
A.Cars parked over sidewalks are ticketed, said Village Manager Reid Ottesen, but much of the ticketing, however, is done on a complaint-driven basis. When time allows, police do monitor for cars parked that block sidewalks. When police do ticket offenders, Ottesen said there are usually a lot of complaints to the village about it.
Q. Has anything ever been discussed on the village level that would require people to keep their new recycling toters inside?
A. No.
Q. What is going on with the White Castle that was planned for Dundee Road?
A. Operators have all their building permits now. Things were held up for a year because of some water reclamation issues, but officials are expecting construction to start this month. The restaurant will be at 1158 E. Dundee Road, just west of the Taco Bell.
Q. What's the status of the Northwest Highway roadwork?
A. The state is in charge of the work happening right now on Northwest Highway (Route 14). The street is being resurfaced for 2.8 miles, on Hicks Road and Route 14 from Plum Grove Road to Kirchoff Road in Rolling Meadows and Palatine. This is a $2.3-million project. It's expected to be done by November.
The bridge replacement in between Palatine and Inverness is also expected to be done by November, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
That $11.67-million project is causing a lot of backups since one lane is open in each direction on Dundee Road and two lanes are open in each direction on Northwest Highway. But all the lanes have been narrowed, and there are periodic daytime lane closures.
