Cab drivers charged in Lombard robbery
Two cab drivers have been charged with robbing a man this week outside his Lombard home.
David Abdulkarim, 18, of 920 W. Lakeside Place in Chicago, and Charles Barrett, 38, of 1624 Washington St. in Evanston, were charged with one count of armed robbery each in connection with the incident, authorities announced Wednesday.
Abdulkarim first picked up the Lombard man outside his home Tuesday morning after the victim arranged for a taxi to take him on some errands and return him home, according to a statement by the DuPage County state's attorney's office.
Authorities went on to say that Abdulkarim apparently contacted Barrett, told him the Lombard man had a significant amount of money and provided him with the man's address.
Barrett then approached the victim at his home and demanded money, authorities said.
A struggle ensued, and, authorities said, Barrett pulled out a knife and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.
Abdulkarim and Barrett were arrested Tuesday.
If convicted, each man could face between six and 30 years in prison, officials said.
Abdulkarim was being held at DuPage County jail and was awaiting a bond hearing. Barrett was being held at Cook County jail on a $100,000 bond.
