Two St. Charles teens face burglary charges
Two St. Charles teens face felony charges after a weekend burglary spree targeting unlocked vehicles.
John A. Tugman, 18, of 1715 Lucylle Ave., and a 16-year-old boy were arrested about 12:15 a.m. Sunday after a bystander saw them rifling through a vehicle on the 1700 block of South Fifth Place, police said Tuesday. The pair was later tied to four other vehicle burglaries on the 1700 block of South Seventh Street, according to reports.
Tugman and the boy, who is not being named because of his age, were each charged with five felony counts of burglary, authorities said.
St. Charles police spokesman Paul McCurtain said the teens stole more than $150 in items, including cigarettes, loose change, sunglasses and a car stereo late Saturday and early Sunday. All of the vehicles were unlocked, he said.
McCurtain praised the bystander who initially reported the suspicious activity for help in making the arrest.
"Citizens are our eyes and ears," he said.
