U-14 Chicago Fire Juniors: The Fire kicked off its season with a 4-2 win over the Woodridge Storm Sept. 9 at Commissioners Park in Naperville.
Hannah Nelmark scored 2 goals, one on a breakaway and the other assisted by Lexi Ardis. Holly Krol assisted Paige Weber for the third goal and Blair Sherry assisted Christin Tang for the fourth.
Keeper Katie Lerche made several saves. Others contributing to the win included Kate Adams, Eryn Alexander, Maddie Behr, Allie Bonfield, Maria Braun, Carter Jankauskas, Kristin Johnson, Jacqui Mulholland, Catherine Nania and Taylor Schneeman.
The team is coached by Ryan French.
U-13 Chicago Fire Juniors Navy: The Fire came up short in a see-saw battle with the Hawks Soccer Club White, losing 4-3 at Commissioners Park.
Connie Harrington led the scoring with 2 goals and Katrina Dovalovsky fired in a second-half goal off the wing to give the Fire a 3-2 lead.
Keeper Sydney Garcia made several nice saves and had protection from defenders Veronica Frey, Jasmine Wissinger, Kate Dannessa and Samantha Siurek.
Forwards/midfielders Karlee Weissenhofer, Kristina Chapman, Maggie Kennedy, Alysia Baznik, Emili Leyden, Kaitlyn Campbell, Amanda Glavin, Madeleine Harris, Caleigh Purcell and Molly Meyer kept pressure on the opponent throughout the match.
