Informal "Learn How To Use e-mail" session: This informal drop-in session focuses on e-mail. A librarian will be on hand in the computer lab to help you set up an e-mail account or solve your e-mail-related problems from 10 to 11:30 a.m. today.
One-on-One Career Counseling: Edie Kleinman, a licensed career counselor from Jewish Vocational Services, will provide 30-minute one-on-one assistance with interviewing, resume writing and other aspects of the job search process from 9-11:30 a.m. today. Signup at the Registration Desk is required. A waiting list will be kept. (R)
Reverse Mortgage Seminar: A financial lecture on reverse mortgages, a popular option for baby boomers and their families, will be offered at 7 p.m. Thursday. Mortgage professional Jeff Koch, brings firsthand experience from the realms of real estate and home financing. (R)
Intermediate Internet Searching: Become a more effective Internet researcher. Class is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and includes information on how to use the library databases as well as Internet searching techniques.
Thursday Evening Book Discussion: Reference Librarian Bob Blanchard leads an adult book discussion on "Water for Elephants," by Sara Gruen, at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Rotary Heritage Room on the third floor. Books available one month prior at the Readers' Services Desk on the third floor. (R-RS)
Sunday Afternoon Movie: Friends of the Library will sponsor a feature film at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Library board meeting: The Library Board of Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The public is invited to attend.
Meet Congresswoman Schakowsky's Representative: Ann Limjoco from Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky's office will meet with individuals privately to answer questions about immigration, visas, Social Security, Medicare, veterans' benefits and other federal services from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 17 in a third floor study room. Introduction to Basic Computing Skills: This basic information for computer beginners will be at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 18. Class covers how to use a mouse, how to work with Windows software, how to save work to a disk and more. (R)
Author visit: Local author Candace Fleming will talk about her books for children and young adults at 7 p.m. Oct. 17. She will discuss her books and writing experiences. Her book, "Lowji Discovers America," is a current Suburban Mosaic book selection.
Immigration is the theme of the 2007 Suburban Mosaic book selections. In "Lowji Discovers America," nine-year-old Lowji and his family make many adjustments as they move from bustling Bombay, India to the quiet, rural Illinois town of Hamlet.
