Bookstore plans events for teachers

This year, Barnes & Noble Bookstores across the country will be celebrating prekindergarten through 12th grade educators the entire month of October with events, special giveaways and discounts on select products.

Barnes & Noble Booksellers at Spring Hill Mall will host a reception for prekindergarten through 12th-grade educators and their supervisory staff at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The event will feature a light lunch, giveaways, special offers and presentations on new books for classroom use. Teachers and administrators will have an opportunity to learn about Barnes & Noble's services and programs for educators, including institutional purchasing discounts, book fair fundraisers, school tours, and in-store events such as principal storytimes and children's performances. Also, educators can enter to win a $500 Barnes & Noble Gift Card or a visit with Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.

In addition to the luncheon, Barnes & Noble, Spring Hill Mall will welcome a variety of authors at Local Author's Night at 6 p.m. Oct. 19.

Teachers will receive 25 percent off their book purchases and 10 percent off DVDs and music at locations nationwide during store receptions Saturday through Oct. 23, when they present their valid Barnes & Noble Educators Discount Card. Normal exclusions apply. Special offers on select products also will be e-mailed weekly to educators during the month.
