Club hosts vendor fair Saturday

On Saturday, the Elgin Junior Woman's Club vendor fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church, off Highland Avenue and Randall Road in Elgin.

The vendor fair is free to enter. Donations are welcome, with proceeds going to YWCA and Habitat for Humanity. In addition to the bake sale, they will have the following vendors; Arbonne, At Home America, Cookie Lee, Gold Canyon Candles, Janet by Designs, Longaberger Baskets, Pampered Chef, Party Lite, Mary Kay, Stamping Up, Tastefully Simple, Textile Arts, Tupperware, and more. Pastors invited to breakfast event

Administer Justice will host "Under the Broom Tree," an event to encourage pastors, provide information on Administer Justice and raise funds for the nonprofit organization. The free breakfast will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Lindner Center at Judson University, 1151 N. State St., Elgin. The event is for pastors and their spouses and is free.

The event features Dwayne Hanon, founder and executive director of Broom Tree Ministries. The program includes the presentation of the Barnabas Award to a local pastor or church for encouragement and outstanding service to the poor in the Fox Valley. Hanon formed Broom Tree Ministries in 1996 after a calling to provide free spiritual retreats to pastors and their spouses. Kiwanis learn about Ecker Center

The Elgin Golden K Kiwanis will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 Division St., Elgin. The program will be by Karen Beyer, executive director of the Ecker Center for Mental Health in Elgin. Her topic will be "Update of the Center and Services." All are welcome. 'Great Buckthorn Blowout' Saturday

The city of Elgin will host its annual Great Buckthorn Blowout from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Hawthorne Hill Nature Center, 28 Brookside Drive. Families and individuals are invited to work together to cut and haul invasive plants and trees, then enjoy an educational hike followed by a simple lunch.
