Dundee-Crown junior killed in crash
One of Kane County's most dangerous intersections Sunday claimed another life, identified Monday as a Dundee-Crown High School junior who was a member of the National Honor Society.
The victim, 16-year-old Keith Forbes, was the youngest of seven children. His mother, Renita Forbes, said Keith was active in church and had traveled to New Orleans to help rebuild homes after Hurricane Katrina.
"He was someone who, when he wanted to do something, he could get everyone to go along with him," Renita Forbes said. "He was friends with everyone."
Crisis counselors will be available today for students at Dundee-Crown High School.
The intersection of Randall Road and Route 72, where the accident happened, was named one of Kane County's most dangerous intersections last year because of its high accident rate -- more than 100 since 2002.
Most recently, a four-vehicle accident June 13 injured two and closed the intersection for four hours.
Forbes died of head injuries received when the Honda Civic he was a passenger in, traveling west on Route 72, collided with a Ford E350 van headed south on Randall Road at 12:13 a.m.
The vehicle's driver and two other passengers, whose names have not been released, were taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin. The driver and one passenger were treated and released.
Another passenger, whose condition was unavailable, remained at the hospital Monday.
The van's driver, 23-year-old Marie Myriam Marot of Chicago, was treated and released from Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, police said. Marot could not be reached for comment.
Police still were investigating the accident Monday, and no charges had been filed.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at at the Second Baptist Church, at 1280 Summit St. in Elgin. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
