New hours: The library has increased its weekend hours permanently. New hours will be Saturdays, from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Sundays, noon-5:30 p.m. Weekday hours remain the same, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-10 p.m. For more information on library services, call (847) 392-0100 or go to www.ahml.info.
Book discussion: The Popular Books Discussion on at 10 a.m. Wednesday, will be "Plain Truth," by Jodi Picoult. It will be in room 172 of the Arlington Heights Senior Center, 1801 W. Central Road. For more information on this monthly book discussion, call (847) 870-3710.
Paws to read: Kids in grades two through five may read to a four-footed friend at the "Paws to Read" program. This pairs young readers with certified therapy dogs to help children become more fluent readers. All dogs and handlers are certified volunteers from Rainbow Assisted Therapy, Inc.
Children interested may register for one session: 7-7:15 p.m., 7:20-7:35 p.m., or 7:40-7:55 p.m. The program meets Thursdays, Oct. 11, 18, and Nov. 1. Register online at www.ahml.info under programs, or call (847) 392-0100.
Reading is magnetic: The Kids' World "Reading is Magnetic" program invites kids to earn magnets by reading books from 16 different categories. Kids from infancy to grade school can pick up a reading log at the Kids' World Desk, or register on the bookmobile. Kids who are not old enough to read may be read to by an adult or older child. This free reading enrichment program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library
Download books: More than 800 audio books and 500 ebooks are now available to download with an Arlington Heights library card from www.ahml.info under "My Media Mall." Cardholders can check out up to 5 books at a time for 21 days. When the loan period expires, the "digital" books are automatically returned so there are never any late fees. To download these books, patrons will need their library card number, a PC, and free reader software that can be downloaded from the My Media Mall site.
