Trim fat, don't increase tax

Todd Stroger, our totally out-of-control county board president, wants to reach into county taxpayers' pockets for an incomprehensible 2-cent sales tax increase. To allow that would be an economic disaster for Cook County. That increase would render sales taxes in our area to the highest level in the nation. The impact on those on fixed retirement incomes and those earning low wages would be criminally devastating.

When are Stroger and his supporters going to understand that the taxpayers are not a trough of unending capacity? Trimming the fat of excess county supervisory personnel, several of whom are Stroger's relatives, would be a good place to start before even considering a tax increase. Message to Todd Stroger from Cook County taxpayers: Get your fingers out of and keep them out of taxpayers' pockets.
